Piers Morgan has broken his hours-long silence after sensationally quitting Good Morning Britain on Tuesday, as he says he still doesn’t believe Meghan’s bombshell interview.

The Duchess of Sussex opened up about her suicidal thoughts during her time in the Royal Family in a deeply personal and explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey. Meghan said she got to the stage where she “just didn’t want to be alive anymore.”

On Monday’s show, Morgan said he “didn’t believe a word” the duchess had told Oprah Winfrey in an interview

His departure followed an on-air clash with weather presenter Alex Beresford, who criticised Morgan on Tuesday for “continuing to trash” the duchess, prompting Morgan to walk off set. He returned.

Mental health charity Mind said it was “disappointed” by Morgan’s comments on Monday, which sparked 41,000 complaints–leading to the Ofcom investigation.

Reacting to his exit in a tweet on Wednesday morning, Morgan wrote:

On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.
