The presidential debate on Tuesday night, President Trump claimed he’s paid millions in taxes but maintained he couldn’t release his tax returns to prove that until an audit is done — the same excuse he’s been giving since 2016.
“I paid millions of dollars in taxes, millions of dollars of income tax,” Trump said when asked about the New York Times article that reported he paid only $750 in income tax in 2016 and 2017.
“People like every other private person, unless they’re stupid, they go through the laws. And that’s what it is,” Trump said, referring to deductions in the tax code.
Biden accused Trump of taking advantage of the tax code to be able to pay less than a schoolteacher.
“You’re the worst president America has ever had,” Biden said. Read live updates from the debate by clicking the link in our bio.
